The Three Formats of Cricket and Popular Competitions

T20

Twenty-over cricket — the fastest format. The match picture can change every over, making it the most popular format for live betting.

ODI

The fifty-over one-day format blends strategy and patience. There are separate betting opportunities on total runs and each batsman's innings.

Test

In five-day Test cricket a draw is a valid result. The Match Winner market therefore has three options — and the odds are structured differently.

BPL, IPL and International Cricket

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is the competition closest to cricket fans in Bangladesh. The contest between teams made up of local and overseas players makes betting on each match more engaging. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most widely watched T20 league in the world — and its betting markets are the most extensive.

and baji's sports section gives special attention to Bangladesh Tigers matches in ICC T20 World Cup events and bilateral series. Follow the team's performance in international cricket and choose your markets based on your own analysis.

You can also bet on football and other sports alongside cricket. However, since football does not have multiple formats like cricket, its markets are somewhat different — Match Result, Goal Scorer and Both Teams to Score are among the most popular there.

Popular Betting Markets in Cricket

Several betting markets are open for every cricket match. Below are seven familiar markets with a brief description of each.

Match Winner

The simplest market — pick which team will win the match. Two options in T20 and ODI; three options in Test, including Draw.

Example: Team A to win

Toss Winner

Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. Two equally likely options — so the odds are usually close.

Example: Team B to win the toss

Top Batsman

Which batsman will score the most runs for a given team — analysing batting form matters a lot in this market.

Example: Team A top run scorer

Total Runs Over/Under

Bet on whether the total runs in the match will be above or below a set number. Pitch conditions and wicket analysis are useful here.

Example: Total runs over 320

Multi Bet

Combine multiple selections from multiple matches into one bet — if all are correct the total return multiplies, but one wrong selection loses the whole stake.

Multi Bet

Method of First Wicket

How will the first wicket fall — caught, bowled, LBW or run out — this type of market is unique to cricket.

Example: First wicket bowled

More detailed markets for each match are available in the sports section of and baji Bet.

Three Ways to Read Odds

and baji odds formats and betting interface

Odds at and baji can be displayed in three formats. Getting familiar with them makes placing bets much easier.

Example 1 — The same value in three formats

Team A to win, stake ৳200

Decimal 2.50 Fractional 3/2 American +150

If Team A wins you get back ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 original stake). If Team A loses, ৳200 is gone.

Example 2 — Favourite's odds

Team B to win (favourite)

Decimal 1.80 Fractional 4/5 American -125

A negative American odds figure shows how much you need to stake to make ৳100 profit. On a ৳200 bet the return is ৳360 (৳160 profit).

Decimal odds are the easiest — the total return is shown directly. Bettors new to and baji usually start with decimal format.

Live Betting — Bet While the Match Is On

LIVE IN-PLAY

Odds change when a wicket falls or an over turns

In cricket every wicket shifts the balance of the match. If the batting team has lost 5 wickets after just 12 overs, the bowling team's odds drop sharply. These moments create new opportunities for live betting.

In-play betting lets you make decisions based on the match situation — runs remaining, balls left, how the pitch is behaving. Analysing all this information together before choosing a market makes the betting experience more engaging.

Keep in mind — odds move very quickly in live betting. Do not rush; make sure of your analysis before placing a bet. Betting is for entertainment — always make decisions with a clear head.

Multi Bet Example

Bets on three different matches: decimal 1.40 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 4.79 (approximate).

A ৳100 stake returns ৳479 — but all three selections must be correct. If even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.

A multi bet offers a higher return, but also higher risk. Bet within your own limits.

Some Useful Habits for Cricket Betting

  • Understand the format before choosing a market. Total Runs markets behave differently in T20, and a draw is possible in Test — strategy should vary by format.
  • Do not stake a large amount on a single bet. Betting is part of entertainment — only bet what you can afford to lose.
  • Odds move fast in live betting. Watch the markets as you monitor the match, and analyse before acting rather than rushing.
  • Be careful with multi bets. Adding more selections increases the return, but also the risk — it is better not to go beyond 3 to 4 selections.
  • Know the rules and terms. Before placing a bet, take a moment to review and baji's Terms and Conditions.
  • Analyse the pitch and weather. A pace-friendly pitch favours the bowling side; a spin-friendly pitch makes batting harder.

Cricket Betting FAQs

Yes, the markets vary by format. In T20 and ODI only two results are possible (no draw), so the Match Winner market has two options. In Test cricket a draw is possible, giving three options — and the odds are set accordingly. Markets for total runs, number of wickets and individual performance also differ by format.

In live betting, markets update in real time while the match is in progress. When a wicket falls or a team's momentum shifts, the odds change immediately. For BPL and IPL matches you can place live bets on markets such as Match Winner, Total Runs and Runs in the Next Over. Keep in mind that odds move quickly in live betting — you have less time to decide.

All three formats express the same value in different ways. Decimal 2.50 means you multiply your stake by 2.5 to get the total return — straightforward to understand. This is equivalent to fractional 3/2 and American +150. On a ৳200 bet, if team A wins you get back ৳500. Most bettors find the decimal format easiest to work with.

Cricket offers a variety of formats (T20, ODI, Test) and a wide range of individual performance markets (Top Batsman, most wickets). Football typically has 90-minute fixed-length matches with markets focused on goals and cards. In cricket, live odds shift with every wicket and over, making them more dynamic than in football.

A multi bet lets you combine selections from multiple matches. For example, three matches at decimal 1.40 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 4.79 combined odds — a ৳100 bet returns ৳479, but all three must be correct. If even one selection is wrong you lose the full ৳100. The more selections you add, the higher the risk.
